Greater Kansas City Chapter of AUSA

2006 Annual Meeting:
Duty First, Boots on the Ground
By Lt. Gen. Robert Forman,
USA Ret., Chairman- KC AUSA Board of Advisors

“You may fly over a land forever: you may bomb it , atomize it¸ pulverize it and wipe it clean of life—but if you desire to defend it, protect it and keep it for civilization, you must to this on the ground, the way the Roman legions did, by putting you young men in the mud.”

These words of Fehrenback set the theme of this  years Annual Meeting:  DUTY FIRST, BOOTS ON THE GROUND.  As always, the experience of AUSA’s annual meeting is a moving, impressive and rewarding few days in our nation’s capital.

Throughout, it reminded all, that five years after terrorists attacked our country, we are engaged in a “LONG WAR” and in the foreseeable future American Soldiers will continue answering this Call to Duty with their Boots on the Ground. The many meetings, briefings, and hundreds of displays and exhibits are most impressive, educational and reassuring to the thousand who are fortunate enough to attend.

During the meeting your Greater Kansas City Chapter was recognized as one of the best—thanks to the dedicated work and support of all members, corporate and individual.  Additionally the Army introduced its new recruiting theme “ARMY STRONG” during the opening ceremony.  Those who witnessed the Secretary of the Army’s presentation agreed that the theme is impressive and recommend that everyone watch the commercials to understand the deeper meaning of “Army Strong.”

This annual meeting of the association just gets better each year.  If you want to experience a few days of getting your “batteries charged” start right now on planning to attend this next year’s meeting.  You will not be disappointed and you will come away truly inspired and impressed of what your association is accomplishing in its service to the Nation and our Army.

This year the chapter was recognized with numerous awards and decorations. This was only because of the cumulative action of all of the chapter and indeed to the efforts of all our great volunteers.  Thanks to all!
