Wreaths across America

Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.

Along with recognizing the sacrifices of the past and present, Wreaths Across America counts educating our children as one of the chief missions of our campaign. Without that connection to the future, we will fail to remember that freedom isn't free.
The wreath laying is now held annually on the second Saturday of December.  Congress unanimously voted December 13, 2008 as “Wreaths Across America Day.”  Wreaths Across America would not be successful without the help of the volunteers, many active organizations and the generosity of the trucking industry.

Your Greater Kansas City Chapter participated this past December in the Wreaths Across America Ceremony held at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Fort Leavenworth.  This solemn event was attended more than 200 volunteers who placed almost 1,000 wreaths at the cemetery.  We applaud the NE Kansas Chapter of Gold Star Mothers for organizing this event in our area.  We hope that next year our Chapter will have an even greater role in supporting this special day.  Look for information on Wreaths Across America next fall on our website and via e-news from KCAUSA.  Also, check out their website www.wreathsacrossamerica.org  to learn more about this important program.
